As an Air Combat Officer (ACO) you will be a master of air combat missions and advanced electronic systems. You will make real time command and control decisions crucial to the overall success of the mission at hand.
All training is provided by the Air Force. ACO graduates are streamed into one of the following roles: Air Battle Management, Air Combat, Maritime Patrol and Response, and Combat Air Lift. Learn more about these roles below.
ACOs in this stream are employed as aircrew on the F/A-18F Super Hornet. In the Super Hornet, teamed up with the pilot, they operate state of the art radar systems and weapons; they are the heart of Australia's Air Combat Capability.

ACOs in this stream operate radars and other communication technology. Working either on the ground in the Air Defence Ground Environment (ADGE) or in the air onboard the Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) aircraft, they locate and identify air and surface targets.

ACOs in this stream perform the duties of a mission commander on board the AP-3C Orion. They're involved in search and rescue operations, the detection and identification of warships, illegal fishing boats and large merchant vessels.
